Paragon Scholarship

On December 13, 1987, the Paragon line chartered the Kappa Pi Chapter at the University of Buffalo. Its influence has reached the graduate chapters in Buffalo, NY, Rochester, NY, and Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The following women were instrumental in creating Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated's presence in the Western New York Community. 

These women are:

  • Dr. Fatima Prim (Morrell), Ed.D.

  • Leslie Howell

  • Lisa Johnson (German) – Omega Rho

  • Melissa Davis

  • Romunda Harris (Fonville)

  • Sheila Addison

It is with esteem honor and privilege that the Eta Rho Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated names their chapter scholarship “Paragon” to commemorate the achievements of these trailblazing women.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Seniors graduating from a high school in the Buffalo-Niagara region.

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) or 80 and above on a numerical scale (a recent report card is required for submission).

  • Two letters of recommendation (one (1) teacher/faculty member and one (1) community member)

  • Acceptance letter to college, university, or trade school. *

  • A completed essay (500 words total) that must include: (1) Your educational goals, aspirations, community service, or volunteer activities (150 words), (2) What’s does the word “Paragon (A person or thing viewed as a model of excellence)” mean to you, and how will your educations aspirations represent Paragon? (at least 150 words), (3) Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated, has several honorary members. Please choose the one you relate to the most and tell us why (200 words).
